I am moving to Portland, Oregon. I’ve lived in the Monterey Bay now for 20 years… and it was no easy decision to move from my beloved Central California Coast… but Portland has been calling. And now it is time to go.
I will keep cartooning away… I may need to take a break for a week or two at some point while the physical moving occurs… but that won’t be until late June or early July. I will, of course, keep you posted to any and all changes. Right now there’s a lot of boxes and packing.
Life is not dull by any means… this is a moving adventure. And perhaps I won’t be the only one moving (????).
Good luck on the move, and I hope the change stays a happy one.
Thank you, GB… the move is already challenging my “purge and get rid of” muscles… being an artist and moving all your art toys and supplies is, well… challenging. I’m aiming at “Happy in Portland” as a general state of being.
Good luck with the move! I’ve visited Portland a few times and it’s a pretty nice area. Of course, that was before all the Wesen moved in. LOL.
Thank you, Pat J… it’s going to be a great move for us… Harold is so excited… but I noticed that many Portlanders aren’t so excited about the influx of “outsiders” coming in. But I’m a cartoonist, so many they’ll make an exception. Ya think?
Whoa,whoa, whoa!
You’re leaving Salinas, a city of 250K heads not counting the lettuce, without a resident comic artist? A block away from Papa Steinbeck and you’re walking away?
And for what, Portland calling? Hang up! Portland lacks…Salinas agri-culture, summer fog, grey whale migrations…squid!
I’m allowing you to leave the central coast only because I have no say in the matter and because you’ll still be posting Randy and Ryan from up north. But you’re going to leave a major artistic hole down here in the Monterey Bay .
BScruff… You are so terribly sweet… I know… it was not an easy decision, I assure you. I have made my home here on the Cnetral Coast since 1996. I’m a UC Slug grad… I practically have fog in my blood… I love lettuce (but they grow that up north, too). I will miss Steinbeck, the ocean (a lot!), and the fog. I will get used to the rain and the donuts n’coffee on every corner… (me smiling). I will miss the cypress trees and the sand dunes, the Monterey Jazz Fest and the West End Celebration. But most of all, I will miss the lovely people I have come to know… the fans, the friends, the beloveds. I am hoping that you will come along for the ride on the internet. Some things will only get better… and Squid Row and Randie&Ryan will definitely improve. Smiles upon you, BScruffy… it was so lovely to get to know you… in person! Hugs!
As a Portlander, (or near Portlander, nowadays) I and my fellow Wesen, uh, I mean Portland-ites, welcome you with open arms. Come for the Food Carts, stay for Powell’s Books, or the Naked Bike Ride, or the Adult Soap Box Derby, or the Last Thursday Art Shows or … well, just come.
Welcome, welcome, welcome!
Oh, Uncle Bad… God Bless your awesome curly mustache! I’ve been reading the Portland news online and I keep seeing articles and twitts about some resentment of Californians moving to Portland. Your sweet welcome makes me happy… I long for the happy weirdness of Portland, which I have so admired from my past visits and from afar. Yesterday I caught myself day-dreaming about eating a donut while in the cafe of Powell’s. I am so excited to soon be scribbling from the Weird City of Portlandia! We will have coffee you and I, when Harold and I settle a homestead. Yes, we shall.
