Randie and Ryan are working! An Artful Jaunt has to have some content… so here’s the duo gettin’ down and arting it up. Meanwhile, Kai’s band, Fussbucket, is right there… Ryan takes a pretty good photo.
This toon took a good long time to finish. Some of you Art-o-rama Zinesters might recognize the background on panels 2 & 4. I used the original collage for event backdrop. *as an interesting side note, I actually know the artist who creates the backdrops for the Monterey Jazz Fest.
Anytime work consists of drawing and drinking coffee is good worktime.
Yay, more note and sketch work! These collages are always fun to see.
I love a classic bass, watching them played in so many of the ’50s beach movies is so much better than watching a modern electric bass player. IMHO, they sounded better- more alive and energetic, if that makes any sense.
Something about the way the player crouched over his instrument with frenetic energy just screamed, “I’m gonna need back surgery, but it’s worth it!”
There’s not too much jazz that I get into, but some names stand out (Chick Corea, Wes Montgomery, Vince Gauraldi…) It may sound silly, but one of the finest jazz piano compositions/performances I have ever heard was Chick Corea doing “The Great Pumpkin Waltz” off the “Happy Anniversary, Charlie Brown” album.
I am a fan of jazz and Vince Guaraldi is one of my favorites! “Linus & Lucy” is on my top ten forever songs! I couldn’t call myself a cartoonist if it warn’t.
