Out here in Philly, we’re in the throes of a Nor’easter. Not a lot of snow, but high winds with gusts to 40mph. So, not a REALLY bad storm, but not to be fooled around with. (The Jersey Shore is the one getting hard.)
We ended up with only a half-foot of snow. It’s the high winds that make a nor’easter so nasty. Today, we’re getting steady winds at 15-20mph and continued cold. Wind chill is expected to go to -15F. Not as cold as the winters I experienced as a kid in Wisconsin, but this is the ninth day in a row that our area has not been above freezing.
Saturday is going to be even colder, though thankfully with no wind to speak of.
South Louisiana has been in the depths of what the National Weather Service calls “hard freeze.” Only problem is, we’ve had no snow to go along with it. Hard freeze is no fun without snow. Brig, the snow we did get was on December 8.
No snow for you either, eh? Well.. we’ve had more cold here in the last week. We had some rain to wash away the snow that came for Xmas… but nothing since. We are expecting some precip soon. I’m guessing we’re to get slush.
Weirdest weather I’ve been in was in Kingman, AZ back in 2003. It was late afternoon and we witnessed and were in a lightning storm that had near-black clouds and 30-40mph winds. The wind kicked up literally dozens of dust devils of various heights and intensities. Finally, the storm was localized to the Kingman area, so the setting sun was shining on us near the mountains. There was almost no rain, so static electricity had charged the atmosphere.
Sometimes a snow-y day IS a spectator sport!

Really? I would have expected you to have more snow… but let’s just leave it as it is, yah?

I’m in South Florida. The temperature dipped down around the high thirties, which is cold for here.
But I’ll trade you your snowstorm for our Hurricane Irma.
Save the oranges!!! Yah… I hear ya on the hurricanes. There was one when I lived in NC as a kid. I was pretty scared. well… Stay warm!

It was… otherworldly; something one never forgot.
That sounds like something to see! It would’ve been Apocalyptic, in my book!
