Chapter: Longing and Other Inconveniences
Location: Cypress City, the apartment
Lightbulb moment…
Here’s some “Pink Vespid” moments in Squid Row past:

Being close and convenient to things is really something that weighs in on choosing a habitable location. If you’re close enough to everything you need, your home becomes a place with a bed in it. If you’re not, it becomes your zone of habitation, only rarely strayed from for most. Mine is the former type.
Yup, Trev, you saids it.
I like the location of my home in that it’s walkable to stuff… a 25 minute walk from downtown (a 10 minute bike ride) and there used to be a 5 minute walk to a grocery (until it shuttered)… I can bike it, walk it, drive it… and not feel stuck. Randie here, she feels stuck. And I’ve been there.
I know that feeling all to well. I used to have to walk an hour just to see another building when I was a kid. These days I plan my living spaces by how close they are to things I want, believe you me!
I forget. Whatever did happen to the Pink Vespid?
Ah… see my reply to Empress of Oldtown’s comment below for a refresher on who really owned the little pink Vespid, and where it is today.
It is very easy to feel trapped when you don’t own a car, depending on where you live. Not having a car in San Francisco was rarely a problem, since getting from Point A to Point B could be accomplished fairly easily with public transportation (not that the MUNI or BART was perfect, but you could still get around).
Los Angeles? Nope! This is a land that caters to cars first and people second, and good luck getting to where you need to go if you resort to public transportation. Granted, Los Angeles covers a vastly wider area than San Francisco (it could probably swallow it whole, python-style), but the bus lines are still abysmal and rarely worth the effort. Staying in your neighborhood a lot happens until you bite the bullet and buy a car (thus contributing to the horribly toxic air, but that’s a whole ‘nuther problem I’ll rant about some day).
Hmmm…maybe I’m going to need a little pink vespid like Randie!
Yes, I know what you speak of. My cousin moved to LA with a car in her possession. When said car became brokened, she was stuck. No way to get to the stuff that she could drive to before. Options were grim. I would say that a Vespa would be a good option, so long as it could go on the Freeway(s).
It has been my personal feeling that cities that offer modes of mass transit and easy access are the better cities to visit… and hang out in… and live in… and play in. Yah?
She got rid of the Vespid??? WHUUUUT???

I hope she gets one even though I’d be jealous! I miss Squid Row, but Randie and Ryan has filled the void very nicely! I do think your art here is worth the departure and I look forward to days were the new strip is out!
Thank you, Fun Mike. I hope that the new style is making everyone happy. I, too, miss Squid Row. It doesn’t feel done to me and perhaps it will come back someday. I have said never, in the past, and I have learned that you can’t do that. So we’ll see. In the meantime, I’m glad you are enjoying the more artsy feel of the new R&R.
My goodness people! Just a few votes over at Top Web Comics and we can break through 400! Vote. Vote! VOTE!!!
We have been flirting with 350 for the last few weeks… I would LOVE to be higher up the scale… Yes, please! Vote please! Thanks, for being a cheerleader, Joe!
Done and done.
*heh* It just occurred to me, her “flashback” frame is done in the current style, of course. I wonder what it would have been like if Randie’s memories had been in your previous style.
Yah… I like continuity… so I kept the flashback in her current state of being. It makes sense if you weren’t an original Squiddy.
Just noticed…… does Randie grind her teeth a lot or is it just that she’s always drawn in a grin of some sort?
Only teeth-grinding I know of is when Grace comes around.
574? I know we can do better than then that at TOP 100 Web Comics.etc! Vote, VOTE, VOTE!!!
Yah! Vote, vote, vote!
