This toon, and the one previous, is partly my response to what I see on Facebook. Sometimes they are stories about how an animal has been found in a deplorable state…and then brought back to be a loving companion… or the flat out cruelty to animals that I try not to focus on, but am brought to tears by. This is my way of addressing the situation. Like Ryan needing to write his dog story… I need to write my kitten story.
My hope (and guess) is that R&R won’t even try to find the owner. They don’t exist. And I’m betting they won’t take him to a shelter to find a home for him. The kill rate for cats in shelters is well above 90% in most location. And the wait time before being put down is often much shorter than dogs.
Besides, he doesn’t need a home. He HAS one now.
Soooo… Brig… do I see a naming contest in the very near future? Or have you already picked a name?
Well, with Randie’s track record with cats… who knows? Will Randie have flashbacks to ‘that other cat’? We’ll see. But that kitten has such big eyes!
Smelly Ryan, Smelly Ryan… what are they feeding you…. Smelly Ryan, Smelly Ryan… its not your fault…
Love the ‘Friends’ reference! Classic Phoebe!
This is why I know I’m not a writer, I’m a reporter. Eight years covering bicycle wrecks and only two “vacations” so far. The rest of my writings are just mundania from my life. I used to be a poet before I was killed for 2 minutes by a maniac driving a pickup truck. Sometime during the wreck I got TBI that messed up my ability to hear meter before I wrote it down. Now I write about other people getting hit and sometimes killed.
I think you meant this comment for a few comics back … but dang! Did you try to slip out of your body for awhile? That was a life-changing event for sure! I’m sorry that your poet-izing was messed up. I actually knew someone who was killed on his bicycle near UCSC. It was a hit and run. Quite sad. Glad you are still with us!
Yep, I got a chance to “be one with the universe”. I also discovered that the universe has a crappy UI with no visible zoom adjustment. I couldn’t figure out how to find the Milky Way galaxy and zoom in on it, so I came back.
And my wreck was hit-and-run also.
It’s nice that you are still with us, Opus… and still writing… and sharing.
This exactly how my girlfriend got her cat, Tuce, (2C, “Second Chance”)
And yes, I was Ryan. In a dumpster. Behind a restaurant. Before we ate.
We had dinner at her house. She cooked while I showered.
Wow! Art imitating life without knowing it! Second Chance-y and this little cat got LOTS in common!
Yep. Tuce has a much better life as Queen of the house than she did as Discard in a Dumpster! She is so loving, best dive I’ve ever taken.
Caution, dumpster may smell terrible. To be fair, that may be what attracted kitty there. Foul smelling refuse and debris attracts all sorts of animals, so if it wasn’t deliberately tossed in it may have fallen in. Either way…. time for some hardcore laundry and a hot shower!
Agreed… hot shower and extra soap on both accounts.
However kitty got in that metal box… it shall not stay!
Hey, that’s the new fragrance by CK-Gull, “Réfuse”.
Ha ha! Your comment reminds me of Zealander (the original)… but gulls would know ALL about that trashy smell!
Dittos on the cat rescue. We have a pack of dogs that are all rescued, and very loving! The last two were literally off the street, starving, and in sad shape. If dogs could purr like cats, this mob would be purring.
To adopt an animal in need shows the greatest empathy. To take in a distressed dog or cat shows the inner workings of a person’s heart.
