I remember liking “Santa Claus Conquers the Martians” when I was a kid…it’s floated past me a couple times since, but I haven’t gotten a good look at it since it turned up on the Golden Turkeys list…
I suffer this every year…not the diy part, but, to paraphrase my brain, “I love these people. They are my life. What thing that I can give them lives up to their importance to me?”
Oy.
Aw… I think we get so caught up in what to give people we love, that we forget to just enjoy the Christmastime with them. A silly evening with eggnog and a Christmas Scrabble game in front of the tree… that kind of memory would last longer than whatever gift was under the tree.
Santa Claus Conquers the Martians is available in full color high-def on YouTube. All 2.5/10 IMDb stars of it! And the mst3k version is also available, though not in high-def.
Gotta watch both this Christmas season! We’ll wait until the two youngest are home from college, though, and inflict it on them as well.
Ahh, yes….
Eggnog. This is the time of year to make a batch. Usually a couple of days before Christmas, so it has a little time to mellow in the fridge. That first test snort, just after mixing it can be a little harsh. 😉
Something to do with all that rum, brandy, and bourbon that goes in, just to ensure that the eggs are properly sterilized…..
My suggestion for Randi’s gift to Rye Bread: A Randi self-portrait.
For Ella, a can of tuna fish seems appropriate.
For the others, baked goods, assuming Randi can bake things like cookies, cakes, and special breads. Since I can’t recall any strips showing Randi’s efforts at cooking (aside from brewing coffee), I wonder if she is up to such efforts.
Ah… Randie’s exploits in the kitchen have been… uh… disasters. Not to say she hasn’t tried… but when you ain’t got the talent, you ain’t got it. Blackened pans are proof.
As for the gifts… good suggestions. We’ll see what she comes up with.
I’m reading the comments for your sweet (Buckeyes!) comic and my eyes are starting to glitch. White dots appear in avatars yet aren’t there when I look! Am I passing out? Is my heart going into a-fib? Was mom right and I’m going blind? NO! It’s just that furshlugginer electric snow! It hadn’t loaded when I read the comic.
Thanks for the Christmas thrill Bridgett. I’ll cancel the call for the paramedics now.
Well, to be truthful… it was kind of a surprise for me, too! Every year at this time, WordPress does this… you have to mark a box. If you don’t unmark the box, it continues on from last year. Quite frankly, I would have marked the box had I not forgotten anyhow. I like the snow… and so do you! Merry Christmas to us!
Glad the paramedics weren’t needed. Whew!
These days I stop worrying what to get people and just ask flat out what they want. It’s so much easier. And if they say ‘just get me whatever!’, I give them money or a grocery gift card. Lazy? Perhaps. But I know they will use food whereas if I get them something cute but impractical it will sit on a shelf for 20 years and get sold in a yard sale. That said I do have at least one relation I’m giving ten horrible movies to….. he loves his z-grade films! I’m absolutely finding a copy of Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, thanks for the reminder! It’ll go good with Plan 9 from Outer Space!
You know, I actually wanted one of those tickle rays when I was a kid. I figured that’d be a good way to cheer up my classmates. I was that annoying kid that liked school!
Love the e-snow by the way! Much easier to clean up than the blizzard we’re getting right now!
You’re smart. Yes, garage sales get full of unwanted presents and such. I have found that food makes a nice gift, indeed. And if anybody asks… I am one of the few who like fruitcake. Which reminds me, we ought to throw one together… it won’t be as “ripe” as some in year’s past, but it ought to be available for Christmas Eve.
I am glad you also like the snow… and blizzard? Oh goodness… you are in the Great White North, yes? I wouldn’t mind a bit more chill in our Central California air… although there WAS frost on the cars this morning. Tis the season.

Golden Turkey sounds about right.

“Santa Claus conquers the Martians” is only survivable with the MST3K riffing!
Oh, Agreed one-hundred percent! The MST3K version makes it tolerable and watchable!

Being that R&R don’t have a tv, this is how THEY would’ve seen it… on U-Tube.
Family infliction is always better… always. Remember the eggnog and gingerbread cookies!

Eggnog is one of life’s not so simple pleasures… I love the stuff!
Joel, Servo, and Crow would agree.
But for the REAL worst Santa movie the MiSTie-alumni ever watched, look no further than Rifftrax “Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny”!
Why… I’ve never heard of such a Xmas title… however, on your recommendation, I will have to venture!

Yep. Good old central Ontario. If you like a bit of a chill I can shovel up a truckload of it for ya! We have plenty to spare now! lol
