That time of year…
Nov29
It’s that time of year when email inboxes are full of “buy now” links to online stores and websites, and the paper goods mailbox is full of catalogues. The only catalogue lampooned above that doesn’t come to my own mailbox is the Boot Barn and Neam & Marcus. As always, draw what you know.
Might be fun to *get*…not so much fun being the guy to *sort* at the post office, or to *carry* to the address…
There is plenty of extra weight involved with lugging them around for sure. However, there was a time not long ago when the Post Office was claiming that they were financially kaput. I can’t help but think that catalogues keep the Postals in the black.
I only JUST posted on my Facebook page a terrific blast from the past: Christmas catalogs going back to the 1930s. Every single page was scanned and you can view them with enough detail to read the descriptions. How I LOVED the Sears Christmas catalogs of the 60s!
Just go to wishbookweb.com to them. No ads or click-bait. Just a personal website done by some good soul who decided to post these wonderful bits of childhood.
OH! What a wonderful site that has met my eyes! I love it! The illustrations in the earlier catalogues are amazing! Oh! Thank you for the link! I will be spending some time there! I love old 30’s and 40’s rags.
As a sort of interesting side note, when I was in Montreal, I spent many evenings looking through old 1940’s newspapers from the area. Google has uploaded many newspapers online that you can just look through. https://news.google.com/newspapers … there is quite the archive of many newspapers from all over! You can get lost.
Hm, it’s that time of year……. free fire-paper season! my parents still have a wood stove so we look forward to this stuff lol. They’ve signed up for anything that still sends out a catalogue!
