Chapter: Turkey Sauce, Jingle Joe, & Sog
Location: Cypress City, the apartment
It’s funny what you remember… We have traditions that solidify and help us remember moments in time. The Macy’s Turkey Day Parade brings back memories of a much different time… in a much different place… and family who are no longer with us. By the way, Randie looks a lot like me when I was a kid, except I had bangs and a Star Wars T-shirt. AND Mom did make a gross sauce.
Here’s some throw-back Thanksgiving Squid for ya…

Thanksgiving, being about a month earlier for Canadians, was always a good time at my house. The weather is usually pretty nice in October. I got to see a lot of relatives around my age (few of them existed and we were scattered to the winds), and they went away again before they got too annoying. There was a lot of food, there was a lot of noise, and I got to stay up as long as I liked because of all the people and we usually weren’t at home anyways.
I hope you guys have as much fun as we do!
Sounds nice… The weather here was chilly this year… really cold for our area. I did get out for a nice walk after dinner and clean up… which warn’t much as we didn’t have a crowd to cook for. Relatives are far from us this year and our plans went from maybe we do this to… no, everyone did other things. So it was very quiet … parade in the morning… cooking in the afternoon… eating late afternoon… walk… drinks… Miracle on 34th Street… phone hellos and sleep. Nice quiet day.
The Macee’s parade must’ve been pretty late in the day for him to be alone with it…the Macy’s Parade in New York usually starts around nine. (Off to Thanksgiving dinner with relatives in a couple of hours—for a while my mother took to doing it at my house but gave it up—leaving me with only a Christmas family dinner to prepare alone.)
Actually, the Macy’s Parade used to air live (from NY) in California… and it was shown on the West Coast very early… 6 am and then re-broadcast again later. Now they just hold the recorded event and show it at 9am here in CA. I watched the whole thing this year…. and enjoyed it even though I recognized all of two celebrities/musicians riding on the floats.
