Randie should’a gone first. Her news can’t begin to top this. And if it does, boy, do I pity her!
My day was actually safely bland. I needed the recovery time. We had our worst-ever turn of bad luck during a wildlife rescue Saturday night turned Sunday morning. The mountain lion is fine, but one of the firefighters helping us will be in the hospital a couple of more days.
The firefighter is doing well. The deal was that we had a large male cougar high in a tree and we needed a ladder truck to reach it when we tranqued it. This was about 3 in the morning, and the night supervisor came out with just a driver in a very large truck. I was just bringing down the cougar when the supervisor had a heart attack. My little Vet was trying to help him but that left me holding a 165 lb cougar (25 lbs more than I weigh!) in a full nelson with his back paws off the ground for a long time, until we were able to toss him into the passenger compartment of the fire truck. Wrecked my back.
Fortunately another truck and an ambulance arrived soon, but everyone was so excited that they drove off and left us with the ladder truck that I had to drive back. At one point I looked into the rear view mirror and saw the mountain lion staring over my shoulder – with a glass window between us, fortunately. That was a vision that will stay with me!
Holy bananas! What a night!!! Well, I hope that by now, all is better… I am coming to this post a little late. My apologies for not getting here sooner… but that is something that YOU WOULDN’T forget! I hope your back is doing better, as well… and that firefighter is out of the hospital.
Randie’s look in the last panel is one of concern and support. I thought Randie should have gone first, but now… I think it’s might be better that Ryan went first. Like Uncle Bilbo (get well!) said, Randie’s news won’t top Ryan’s, which means it will probably help bring balance back to this upset table.
Well… it sort of takes the punch out of any news Randie could share… however, Ryan wanted to get this thing off his chest after thinking about it on the ride home. That would allow him to actually HEAR what Randie has to say.

Yah… how do you follow THAT!?
I do hope firefighter person is doing well… My brother is a firefighter… I know how dangerous that job can be! Best wishes there!
Well at least he’s being honest and forthright and admits he missed a few things. Not really an ‘at fault’ kind of thing.
Uncle Bilbo, wow….. rest well weary warrior, and speedy recovery to the firefighter!

If Emily’s at hand, can the gnomes be far behind?
you can bet on that.
What the what! for sure!!
I borrowed this phrase from my pal, Betsy Streeter. She deserves the credit for that little nugget.
