I moved ‘temporarily’ to the desert to help my brother get through grad school, then he immediately moved away when he was done. I was about to move away also. Then I happened to take my little dog to a new veterinarian and amazing things began happened.
Then again, someone I used to know moved to Portland about five years ago. After a year she died top a severe allergic reaction. You never know.
UB… Things happen for a reason… it’s one of my mantras. You were supposed to meet your lady vet. You were supposed to be there at that time. My dad used to say, “Timing is everything.” I believe that, too. He was on his way to Trader Joe’s back in the day… when my mom happened to be out in her front yard… their paths crossed at that moment in time.
And YIKES! Severe allergic reaction!? To Portland? … something IN Portland. There’s A LOT of trees and green stuff here.
It was a food allergy that probably had nothing to do with Portland. On the other hand, it happened because of a new friend in Portland who refused to believe that it was a real problem and deliberately gave her something that she was allergic to without warning her. So you could argue that she might still be alive if she had stayed in Seattle. That happens anywhere. My kid has a friend whose grandmother didn’t believe that lactose intolerance is a real thing and kept slipping her things to prove that she would not get sick if she didn’t know – and of course she always got sick. She had to stop going over to visit when the grandmother was there.
Randie will learn this. The piece of her heart that she’s given to Ryan… that’s where she will be happiest. Now, I’m not saying that she’d be happy back in Barstow… but she’d be more miserable-r there without him.
Oh, this is true. When I moved to Salinas a decade ago… the social media wasn’t in place like it is now. So I get to keep all my Salinas and California pals while living elsewhere. THAT is nice! Love you, CA Peeps!
The real test of friendship: move away and see who still keeps in touch. Moving can suck but you can’t put life on hold for other people all the time…… besides, you’re just increasing the places that you have a home in when you move. You never forget the others!

Wow. I cannot imagine how said friend felt after that! What a horrible thing to go through life with.
Lactose issues … real. Bad Gram.
You may miss where you are, but the best place is ALWAYS where your loved one is.
For myself, the thing I want to do most is almost always whatever my wife wants to do.

Thank goodness that social media allows us to keep our friends close no matter how far away they really are.

True words.
