yah… always does… you’ve held onto something for so long… and you keep thinking “I’ll use this for ‘x'”… and the minute you give it away …. that’s when you need/want it!
Artists vary quite a bit in the attachment to art supplies and brik-a-brak.
When my friend – a well-known anime artist – was moving back to Japan, I headed down to his home in Virginia to help him pack. Fully one-third of his basement was art, art-related souvenirs, and art-related junk. We spent hours going over it; what to keep out for the new home, what to put in storage, and what to toss out. He could remember virtually every circumstance on how he came by any given item, but his emotional ties to the item didn’t seem to effect his decision on what to do with it.
There were exceptions, of course. He treasured a torn, hand-written letter from Rumiko Takahashi that gave him permission to draw any of her characters. He’d been key animator for her in the Urusei Yatsura TV series, but this letter was written to him while he was still a kid; long before he got into manga and anime.
But he was also thoughtful: He gave my son – the artist in our family – at least three or four hundred dollars worth of paints, pens and art supplies. I know he enjoyed giving it to Ben as a way to Further the Art of the Arts.
That’s a cozy and nifty art unloft. I’m thinking it would make a good writer’s nook as well. (Just not at the same time!)
I think a nice big beanbag… some books… chill time under the stairs.
Awful small space, under the basement stairs…
Robert,
I think that’s her Thinking Niche. The rest of the basement seems to be Doing Space, with the sum of it being a complete Arting Haven.
Ever read Richard Matheson’s “Born of Man and Woman?”
Boy, that seemed to happen awfully fast…
This cartoon marks the literal start to a new chapter… in doing so, I jumped ahead a bit… you’ll see as things move along.
I’m going to hazard a guess that the great art supply cull of 2017 was a source of much deep thought and anguish?

You gotta get yer art space set up at a new place. I’m still setting mine up! eek! I need to get set up!
Happy New House-ing!
Is it just me, or is it snowing on the page?
If you are on a computer, as opposed to a mobile device or tablet, yes, it is snowing. Does it give you a chill?
Yes, I need a cup of hot chocolate.

I’m sure Randie felt the same way.
Nice account… and story of sharing … Randie is learning to share… she has some wonderful role models in her life: Enid & Ryan specifically.
