If you can’t remember it, it couldn’t’ve been *that* important. (I try to keep that in mind for the great ideas for stories that I can’t remember when I can write them down.)
I used to work with a guy who always had a ballpoint pen in his pocket and he always carried his hand with him. He was forever writing messages on his hand. Good plan… because you always have a writing surface… unless you plan on losing your hand.
Or washing it.

When I have something that IS important to remember, the scene in Fiddler on the Roof comes to mind…the family is packing their meager belongings to travel to America, and Tevya hollers, “don’t forget the baby!” Yeah, its good to write stuff down.
Hahahhahahahhahahah!… I am forever writing stuff down. My brain is so conspiring against me… all the time… I have to enlist my hand into service on a regular basis. Don’t forget the sketchbook!
I have to keep a pen on me at all times just for this kind of thing. My left arm often gets stained completely blue from washed ink (in which case I switch to a black pen!). I never remember a thought that is important, I don’t know why. But trivial stuff? That fades in and out of my head 24/7!
