Panic
Aug13
I hate that feeling when you just realized you left something somewhere… something expensive or valuable. All those feelings rush in… it’s gone forever, someone made off with it… it’s ruined. All is lost. Ever notice how Randie always imagines rain ruining things?
Panic-y moments in Squid Row history:

when shelter has been a problem for you, your mind naturally goes there.
Yes… and Randie has a thing about the rain ruining things.
We always steal things in the same way as we drink our tea: With the pinkie daintily. Remember, class!
“When in doubt, pinkie out!”
😀
Ha hahahaha… yes, dainty theft is much more classy!
I still remember one time when I I was a kid. My grandmother always used to send me to church camp for a week in the summer. One year she lent me her camera to take along, spend 30 minutes showing me how to use it & stuff. It was one of those fold-open-with-a -bellows things. I left it on the bus that brought us to the camp & didn’t even think of it until hours later. I went through 16 different kinds of angst. It was horrible.
Oh, dear… Did you spend the other have of your summer mowing her lawn, raking up leaves, and doing odd jobs?
Yep! That pretty much sums up how things go for me! LOL
Oh, dear.
This summer I drove my camper out of Lakeview Oregon, heading west on a moderately busy country highway with no shoulder. Got six miles down the road and discovered that the backdoor of the camper had come open, and a bag of wool and processing combs was missing. Did I mention that it was on and off rain (Randie nods, “Of course.”). Prayed and drove back, expecting to find six miles of flattened tools and wool fluff . Pray and expect the worst? I guess I’m a relapsing faithful fatalist. Anyway…
About a mile out of Lakeview we saw the canvas bag set up neatly beside a mailbox. All the wool and tools(some with a little bit of road rash) had been neatly repacked into the bag. Whoohoo, yet another example of gallant hands and great-hearted human spirits.
Thank you for the restorative comment here… It restores my faith in humanity, which often takes a beating. It makes me happy to see the good out there!

Wah-wah…. So YOU are the “pinky bandit” ….
I have trained myself for years to reflexively put things like my phone, marker, pens, and so on in the pocket I remove them from the moment I’m done with them simply because I’ve seen this exact thing happen so many times. Most of my jeans have permanent dents in the pockets in the shape of my wallet and phone. It still doesn’t help with things like hats.
When I worked my retail days in art supplies … I was a manager, which means I was “the keeper of keys…” … I am also notorious for leaving something somewhere, especially if distracted. So I got in the habit of wearing said keys on a ring on my belt loop. If I wasn’t jingling, I didn’t have my keys.
That’s rather simple and brilliant, actually.
Your burglar is hilarious.
