Growing up in not-artsy, not-urban settings, I always took parking space for granted. Now that I’m in the Philly area, where parking spaces sell for up to $100,000 (and much more than that in Boston and NY), I understand Ryan’s joy at having found an affordable spot.
I find it amusing that the things the garage protect you from, other than rain, cold, and snow, are mostly dark. Unless, you are fortunate to have a garage at work. 🙂
So, Chapter Two for Our Heroes, in the Great City of Portland….

I’ve never owned a car so I’ve always avoided parking costs. Thank goodness! I used to live in Ottawa. I’m pretty sure some parking spaces go for more than the houses in that city! It sounds like a nice little place. A touch cozy maybe, but something to work with.
The last two times I visited Portland, I stayed within a short walk of a transit stop, and didn’t use the car until it was time to drive home. Portland has pretty amazing mass-transit. As a rule, if I am in a big city, I *TRY* to avoid using the car, if I can.

Oh, yeah. Outdoor anywhere will eventually ruin a paint job, but blistering heat and light and cold snow and sleet are the worst.
