I know what you are saying… we’ve never met “the family”… well, that gives you something to look forward to. Clearly, Ryan doesn’t get on with his familial ties very well… Florida is probably not far away enough for Ryan.
Here’s a few way-back Squid Rows on some history involving Ryan’s family:

We’re very blessed in that my family gets along well with each other. We actually look forward to holidays together. But with two sisters in Arizona, two brothers in Colorado, and our big family in Pennsylvania, our shared holidays can be years apart.
Randie & Ryan are wise to stay home; they need to start up their own family traditions!
Family Sprawl… it’s a bummer if you like your family. My Mom sometimes lives in Ohio… and my siblings live in Sandy Eggo… and Mom’s family lives in Chino/Riverside… Even that takes some navigation to get peoples together.
R&R need to be together.
I sense surprise visit.
Hmmm… in a way.
Pop’N Tarts for the Thanksgiving feast? Well, it does beat a certain blockhead’s idea to serve popcorn and jellybeans.
Hahaha… Pop’n Tarts is a staple food in Randie’s kitchen…kinda like milk and eggs. But yah… she’d probably eat them on T-day morning.
ps. The looks on Peppermint Patty’s face while being served said jellybeans wasn’t disappointment… so as “fixings” it musta been okay.
LMBO!! Yeah, who knew that politics, religion, marriage equality, and gun control would be hot button topics indeed?!!? Alcohol, family, football, and hot button topics… what could happen? Oh, yeah, Happy Thanksgiving!!! I love it!
Yes, our family is not impervious to the topic of this cartoon… the hot button topic, that is. We just know not to touch on certain subjects… it’s just better to stay on OTHER safe topics… like Food and the weather, and comics & toons. AND … A Most Happy Thanksgiving to you!
I’m fortunate in that me and my family get along in the tenor sense.
Ten or fifteen miles away, we get along!
Trev,
That’s VERY cool. My wife and I have five sons – the youngest is 17 – and while they haven’t scattered to the four winds, it’s starting. I’ve a hunch we’ll be the “travelling grand-parents” in a few years. Fortunately, we love to travel!
Trev: Sometimes 10 or 15 miles away is best. Close enough to be closer if you want, but not on a regular basis.
Pete: The scattering of kids into the world means they have the courage to fly.
Pete: It’s an old joke, but it’s true. And hey, if you love to travel, it’s good to have family to visit! They always know the good places to check out.
Brig: Yeah, in my family space is a valuable commodity. Kids tend to cluster around their parents, so any town you visit will have a dozen relatives in walking distance, not all of whom you want to see. Worse, all the cousins my age always live near their parents so I rarely had anyone to talk to with similar interests unless the whole clan dropped in unless I couldn’t get a word in edgewise!
If you start arguing over politics and religion on Thanksgiving, you’ll have nothing left to talk about on Christmas.
Ha… well… There’s always a viewing of “The Christmas Story” to watch other fictional families “talk” at Christmas. I’m sure everyone knows my favorite… Chuck Brown’s Christmas Story…. it’s not the Christmas Season with out Chuck and the Peanuts gang.
Looks like they covered all the bases on “hot button” topics. Kinda wondering what they left out? 😉
