Kitty Treaty
May19
So this is actually good advice. This information was shared with me from… I wish I could remember who … but it works. I have some little jingle-bells and I keep it by the back door. When Mouse isn’t around, I give a jingle and in she comes. I dispense a treat and reinforce the behavior.
So in addition to Pavlov’s Dog, we’ll now have Randie’s Cat!
I wonder if Enid taught Pavlov that trick as well? 😉
It is most possible. Judy, having seen this cartoon today informed me that it was the lady at the shelter (where we got Mouse) who shared this little trick with us.
Simply a variation on the old Pavlov’s dog trick.
Food is a very powerful tool, ain’t it?
Considering cats can’t leave jingling things alone, this works especially well for them. My friend tried to train a tiny pig like this, but the pig was usually eating something else when he rang the bell so until he locked everything else up he had little success. Seems the pig was often smarter than him though, it learned to ring the bell to signal it was meal time!
I have found that Mouse likes the cat treats that come in the purple top see thru-tube… I cannot remember what the brand is, and if they ever change their packaging, I won’t know what to do. But she runs from outside the yard when I ring that bell.
Pigs… a whole different animal… literally.
When in doubt, just keep an empty container somewhere and check it if you’re ever uncertain! You’d be amazed how many people have to do that with their cigarettes. Working in a convenience store will show you most people don’t know anything about what they like other than ‘the blue package’….. chocolate bars, candy, milk, you name it.
How’bout that…. Yah, our brains get conditioned… and we got into autopilot. It’s weird.
