I discovered TinTin on my first trip to Europe. I was in Tournai, Belgium and there were Tintin stickers on all the cars. I had a vague idea of who it was… but it wasn’t until I visited the cartoon art museum in Brussels that I knew who Tintin was. I learned a lot about European comics on that trip.
See Ryan’s discovery here: http://squidrowcomics.com/tintin/
They used to run a cartoon of Tintin when I was growing up—this was a *very* long time ago, the 1960s, though they did another cartoon version in the 1980s…
Hey there! I didn’t realize that Harold was dressing up as Snowy! Hooray for animal sidekicks! Also I am loving the androgyny of Tintin…..very cool.
My brother, while a perfect example of a jerk older sibling through and through, was a huge mark for older comics, and especially foreign ones, so I grew up with a lot of things like Valerian, Asterix and Obelix, and of course Tintin. Every time I see a reference to the Tintin crew I remember his old collection of dog-eared giant comics. It’s a great memory, so thank you!
