San Diego is roughly about an hour and fifteen minutes south of Cypress City (Monterey) by plane. A prop plane takes you into Terminal Two at Sandy Eggo International. It’s a pleasant enough ride when you fly from the little regional airport in Monterey (CC). Ryan does most of his travel through there if he can.
You’ll remember I did this trip not that long ago. I took notes.
I lived within sight of Disneyland. Took a band trip to San Diego in 1978 from Garden Grove, a quick 90 minute drive away. I’ve been to Sandy Eggo a few times. Always a nice place; always a nice time.
I’m sad that Randie didn’t get to go, but I’m almost sadder for Ryan, who got to go, but had to go alone.
Wow…. in sight of Magic Kingdomland. It took ME 30 minutes (depending on traffic) to get there from Huntington… and I worked the late shift… closing (not fun… you get punchy at 1:30am… and you’re expected to count your drawer correctly???) You could get home in a matter of minutes!
Okay… tangent.
San Diego… It has gotten ridiculously crowded and more expensive to live there. I visit my sister who lives down there… and it’s nice to visit… but the traffic is like LA now. Nope.
Ryan will have his work. Hopefully Randie will keep herself busy with gnomes and cats. We’ll see, won’t we! But you’re right… there is no bigger bummer than seeing something awesome and not having someone to share it with… remember when Ryan went to London?
I don’t get much travel done, always too busy just making a living and being broke. That said, I know plenty who do and they usually agree: leaving your significant other to go somewhere they’d likely enjoy is a major buzzkill. Hopefully Ryan can keep that out of his work and enjoy the sights despite the constant nag of ‘I bet Randie’d get a kick out of this…..’. And let’s hope Randie doesn’t get too bummed out alone again. Then again she always has her talking heads to keep her company!
Trev… Yes… the talking heads… hee-hee… *nodding*… hee-hee.
I think you’ll enjoy the coming pages.
I love seeing comic artists giggle. It always means something amusing is around the corner!
Lived in Sandy Eggo, north end of the county, in the Messy Mesa area for 17+ years. Still the best place to live as far as our family is concerned. But, yeah, gotten a bit too busy and crowded lately. Still love to go there–90 minutes from our house…
I enjoy visiting… I haven’t been in the Encinitas/Solana Beach area in a long time. Old stomping grounds. I must say, the Downtown area sure is brilliant these days… not like it was when I lived there. You had maybe 4 streets (4 blocks) in the Gaslamp area and you didn’t go beyond that. Now, it’s all cool.
San Diego is alright. I like that it’s right on the coast. I went to ComicCon back in 2009 and I was so relieved to see all the fog rolling in. Being an Oregon Coast kid, fog, mist, and a high of 60 is alright by me. I fear the sun.
It’s funny… when I was much younger, I loved the sun. Now, I have the whitest of legs, layered clothing and a love the marine layer. Don’t get me wrong, I do like sun… just not the HOT.
I could be an Oregon-ite.
I’ve only been to Sandy Eggo once, when I was very young, when the World Science Fiction Convention was there. I kept finding myself doing panels alone because all the other authors were out sightseeing. Unfortunately that was when I almost killed George RR Martin by causing him to choke on an inadvertent bad joke (I didn’t mean it to be funny) There was almost no Game of Thrones because of me and Sandy Eggo.
Well, that was a bit unprofessional of those other authors sightseeing when they were supposed to be on a panel! Well… wait, you mean attending a panel or being ON a panel… well, it’s a good thing your joking and the subsequent choking didn’t land anybody at the hospital!
They were supposed to be sitting ON the panel talking to people about stuff. I literally was the only person who turned up on one panel, so I moved up and down the table pretending to be the people who were not there. This didn’t happen at any other conventions – apparently there was something magical about the Sandy Eggo Zoo that Science Fiction writers find impossible to resist.
OK, didn’t take as long as I thought it would. 😀
New strip’s looking good, Brig!
Welcome back! Where have you been? You went away…
